051. A Conversation with Nicholas Seitz

Shockoe Artspace made a documentary last year about an unlikely art collector and the community of artists, collectors, and curators that surround him. We recently started the screening and festival circuit, so we figured this week’s episode would be a great time to introduce everyone to our co-directors and discuss the film.

This week Ryan and Garreth sit down with Nicholas Seitz, a Richmond-based photographer and filmmaker who has been active in client and creative work for years. His father is an architect and helped instill an early passion for art and design. His childhood home had a drafting board and drawing tools, and Nick still surrounds himself with creative people and activities.

Check out our documentary The Builder!
The Builder is a story about friendship and the powerful way the interconnectivity of people living and moving throughout a city can help to build culture. The film centers on the art scene in Richmond, Virginia, with a focus on Oregon Hill native and contractor Don Childress, who–to the surprise of many–has an incredible contemporary art collection. This collection includes work from Francisco Clemente, Ron Johnson, and Bill Fisher to name just a few. Check out more at The Builder’s website.

Help Ken Gilbertson and Hatchback Gallery!
Our good friend Ken is trying to update Hatchback Gallery to better serve his new city and its art lovers. While he won’t let anyone touch the outside of the gallery, he does want to get a few new parts and build some new walls. We are helping Ken launch a GoFundMe, so be on the lookout for how you can help bring Hatchback Gallery to a neighborhood near you!

We are on Patreon!
