076. Ten Year Telethon

This month we held an opening exhibition celebrating the first ten years of our gallery, Shockoe Artspace. We have had an incredible outpouring of support and help as we have weathered the decade-long storm of building, maintaining and growing a non-profit art space dedicated to the holistic flourishing of artists and designers. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for all the people who have been an integral part, so we are so proud to exhibit new work from 24 artists who have volunteered alongside us to show what knowing each other and being known by each other can produce!

This week, Ryan and Garreth sit down to talk a bit about ten years and to make a shameless request for your support. No one at Shockoe Artspace or Shockoe Artspeak is paid for the work they do; we are a 100% volunteer staff. A little support goes a long way, and we would love to ask you to come alongside us to make sure the next ten years is even more successful for artists and designers in all stages of their career and development.

Our award-winning film centers on the art scene in Richmond, Virginia, with a focus on Oregon Hill native and contractor Don Childress, who–to the surprise of many–has an incredible contemporary art collection. This collection includes work from Francisco Clemente, Ron Johnson, and Bill Fisher to name just a few. Check out more on Vimeo!
