081. Why Do You Do What You Do?

It seems that the older you get the more you forget. Names, ideas, lines from that song you used to love: no matter what it is, forgetting is difficult to deal with. But what else do we forget? Is it just the inconsequential stuff, or do we have a tendency to get so much into the machinations of everyday life that we forget the most important parts of what we do? Or maybe we haven’t even stopped to figure those things out in the first place.

This week Ryan and Garreth sit down to talk about why they like making and why they keep making. Art and design isn’t just some hobby to pass the time, and it is rarely a career chosen so you can get rich. The reasons we have for doing what we do are important, so it is good to remember why we do this in the first place.

Our award-winning film centers on the art scene in Richmond, Virginia, with a focus on Oregon Hill native and contractor Don Childress, who–to the surprise of many–has an incredible contemporary art collection. This collection includes work from Francisco Clemente, Ron Johnson, and Bill Fisher to name just a few. Check out more on Vimeo!
