063. Getting the Band Back Together

It’s been a strange year, and it may be the most fitting thing ever to begin to wrap up 2020 with another visit from our good friend Ken Gilbertson. Shockoe Artspace recently partnered with Ken to help make a holiday album called That’s a Wrap: Something You Can Ride To, Volume 2. This four track album was conceived and performed by Ken and his band to raise support for the upcoming remodel of his gallery, The Hatchback Gallery.

This week Ryan, Garreth and producer Michael Clapp sit down to talk with Ken about the singular experience of making an album on a tight budget and even tighter time frame. While making may be fraught with different types of anxiety, the question of whether or not to make shouldn’t be one. As Ken likes to say “Make art with your friends and for your friends, and then go out and make some more friends.”

The Ken Gilbertson Band’s recent album can be found on Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Spotify and Pandora.

Help Ken Gilbertson and Hatchback Gallery!
Our good friend Ken is trying to update Hatchback Gallery to better serve his new city and its art lovers. While he won’t let anyone touch the outside of the gallery, he does want to get a few new parts and build some new walls. We are helping Ken launch a GoFundMe; even a few bucks can be a big help!
